About Us
EstimatingCubicYards.com is a BigTechies project that removes guesswork from ordering bulk materials and concrete. We built a calculator that’s obvious to use: pick a shape, enter dimensions (mix inches, feet, yards—or mm/cm/m), set depth, and see cubic yards, cubic feet, cubic meters, and even a quick cost estimate. Results update as you type, with rounding only for display while the internal math stays full precision.
What it can do
- Estimate volume for square/rectangle, circle, triangle, rectangle border, circle border (annulus), and trapezoid.
- Mix units freely—no manual conversions required.
- Optional cost calculator (per ft³ / yd³ / m³) with popular currency symbols.
- Reference tables: quick coverage approximations for mulch/soil/gravel and typical “bags per cubic yard” for concrete.
What we care about
- Accuracy first. Transparent formulas (e.g., volume in ft³ ÷ 27 = yd³) and shape-specific area math.
- Privacy by default. No sign-up required; we keep data use minimal and clear.
- Speed & clarity. Clean, mobile-friendly UI and instant results.
- Accessibility. Keyboard-friendly inputs, clear focus states, and readable typography.
Tips from the guide
- Convert inches to feet by dividing by 12; multiply ft² by depth (ft) and divide by 27 to get yd³.
- As a quick sanity check, a pile ~3 ft × 3 ft × 3 ft is about 1 cubic yard.
- For spreads: yd³ ≈ (square feet × depth in inches) ÷ 324.
Roadmap
- Saved scenarios and side-by-side comparisons
- CSV/PDF export
- More presets (common depths, typical densities)
- Dark mode and tighter mobile ergonomics
